The Salt Marsh Hounds Spring Hunter Pace is a relaxed, team-based riding event set across a beautiful private plantation, featuring a thoughtfully designed route over coastal terrain and inviting jumps.

Riders set out in small groups and aim to match an ideal time—no stopwatches needed, just good horsemanship, a sense of adventure, and a willingness to enjoy the ride.

How It Works

• Each team of 2–4 riders rides the 6+ mile course at their own pace with a goal of finishing as close as possible to the ideal time set by the ride organizers

• Optional jumps are clearly marked—take them or go around

• The closest to the ideal time wins!

• Two routes will be offered with placings for 1st - 6th in each. First flight for riders who wish to walk, trot, canter, gallop and jump and Hilltoppers for riders who wish to take a more leisurely pace without jumping.

• All disciplines welcome. Any tack. Tidy attire and/or team costumes encouraged!

Registration

• Entry Fees:

  • $65 per adult rider

  • $45 per junior rider (21 and under)

  • Registrations placed by April 24th will include lunch. Lunch starts at 12:30pm.

  • Registrations are non-refundable unless the event is cancelled.

Good To Know

• Start times are between 8:30 am and 11:30 am.

  • 8:30 to 9:00am start times are reserved for First flight only.

  • Hilltopping teams must start by 11:00 am.

  • Teams arriving well after the 11:30am cut off time will be disqualified and will not be allowed to participate.

• Parking for the hunter pace will be at the Half Moon Island entrance for Coosaw. Signs will direct trailers. Please park neatly so everyone can fit!

• Check in and get your team number on arrival.

• All participants must sign a Waiver of Liability for the event. You can email it ahead of time, bring it with you, or sign one at check in.

• There will be no assigned start times. Teams will be cleared to start the ride in 3 minutes intervals.

• Helmets are encouraged, a current negative Coggins is required.

• Teams of 2-4 riders can enter. No team? Reach out and we can pair you with someone!

• Both courses will be clearly marked. Routes are expected to be 6+ miles.

• Jumps are coops and natural obstacles to 2'6”. Jumping is optional and all jumps have go-arounds.

• Results are judged against a pre-determined ideal time set for each division by an experienced fox hunter. Ribbons awarded for 1st - 6th in each division.
