Get to Know Us
Salt Marsh Hounds is a foxhunt based in beautiful Coastal South Carolina.
We formed in 2025 with one goal — to create a welcoming, safe, and enjoyable community for horsemen of all disciplines to experience the joy of fox hunting.
At Salt Marsh Hounds, we’re doing tradition our way; and that starts with having a whole lot of fun.
“Our sport is brought to life by the expert skill of the Huntsman. It is his instinct, patience, and a lifelong reverence for the sport that fuels all of the day’s events. He is the choreographer bringing together human, horse, and hound.”
Meet Our Huntsman
Rhodri Jones-Evans, Professional Huntsman
Our Huntsman, Rhodri Jones-Evans was born and raised on the Lleyn Peninsula in North Wales. In college he studied forestry, and game and fishery management. Soon after, he decided to pursue a career in Hunt Service.
Prior to joining Salt Marsh Hounds, Rhodri held professional positions with Wynnstay Hunt, Midland Foxhounds, Fox River Valley and he most recently served eighteen seasons with Mooreland Hunt in Alabama. He is known for breeding packs that suit his ever changing terrain; hounds that are bred for either hunting sprawling, fast country, or as needs have changed, he was equally successful with breeding hounds better suited to closer quarters.
When he is not hunting with foxhounds, Rhodri enjoys hunting for game birds, fishing, and incorporating his spoils into decadent game inspired meals.
He joins us with his pack of three pet Labradors and a mostly-deaf, half-blind Airedale named Wooly Mae. Salt Marsh Hounds is certainly lucky to have them all join us in South Carolina!
Our Masters of Foxhounds
Our Masters set the tone for every meet and every event, from welcoming and educating newcomers, to preserving the centuries-old traditions of our sport.
The Joint Masters of Salt Marsh Hounds share a combined 50+ years of fox hunting and leadership experience. Beyond that, they all share a lifelong love and passion for the sport.
"The Hunt is led by the Masters of Foxhounds. All of their decisions and efforts are rooted in tradition, stewardship, and for the sole purpose of preserving good sport for horse, hound, and rider.
