A Time-Honored Beginning to the Season Ahead
Opening Meet is where tradition meets celebration — our first formal hunt of the season, when hounds, horses, and friends gather to toast what’s ahead.
For Salt Marsh Hounds, Opening Meet is about honoring heritage while embracing the community that carries it forward — champagne, hounds, horn calls, good horses, and all.
Opening Meet is equal parts tradition and celebration —
Here’s what the day holds for us —
Stirrup Cup – The morning begins with riders and guests gathering for a Welcome Toast before hounds move off. Champagne, port or sherry in hand, friends catch up as anticipation builds for the day’s festivities.
Blessing of the Hounds – A cherished tradition honoring the hounds, horses, land, and community that make our sport possible.
A Morning in the Field – The huntsman, hounds, and field of riders set off for a lively and spirited morning of Foxhunting across Coosaw Plantation.
Tally-Ho Wagon – For those joining from the ground instead of on horseback, our Tally Ho Wagon offers the best seat in the house — a front-row view of the action, plenty of fun, and a refill or two along the way.
Hunt Breakfast to Follow – The day concludes with a catered lunch filled with good food, laughter, and storytelling — a celebration of friendship, tradition, and gratitude for the season ahead.
Tickets are required for both Members and Guests to participate in Opening Meet.
Salt Marsh Members who wish to Ride
Adult Riders $60 - Includes all Opening Meet festivities, a ticket for the Saturday Hunt Breakfast, and a keepsake St. Hubert medal.
Junior Riders Age 10-23 $60 - Includes all Opening Meet festivities, a ticket for the Saturday Hunt Breakfast, and a keepsake St. Hubert medal.
Young Junior Riders Age 0-10 Complimentary tickets to all Opening Meet events.
Sunday Beagling tickets are complimentary for all SMH members. Please add tickets to your cart separately to RSVP.
Salt Marsh Members who wish to Spectate & Socialize on the Tally-Ho Wagon
Adult Tally Ho $40 - Includes all Opening Meet festivities, and a ticket for the Saturday Hunt Breakfast.
Junior Tally-Ho Age 10-23 $40 - Includes all Opening Meet festivities, and a ticket for the Saturday Hunt Breakfast.
Young Junior Tally-Ho Age 0-10 Complimentary tickets to all Opening Meet events.

Our Opening Meet celebration doesn’t stop after Saturday, December 6th.
On Sunday December 7th, we will be meeting for Beagles, Bagels & Bubbly - our Sunday Brunch and beagling event to cap off the weekend.
